Presently in New York, graffiti is being embraced and encouraged in the form of large, colorful murals and wheat paste artwork, as well as smaller works and tags. But this is only a recent trend. Before, graffiti in New York was largely personal or gang tags and was heavily frowned upon by the authorities and the general public.
